Abstract
In the present era, life skills are among the basic needs of a person to live in society.The goal of this research is to analyze the life skills included in the stories of Arabic language books for schools in Afghanistan for the middle stage. Prescribed by the Ministry of Education, it included three textbooks. The researchers used the descriptive-analytical approach with its deductive approach and deduced those skills from the stories written in those books. This research was divided into two parts. Life skills, the importance of life skills, and the second section is devoted to the applied aspect, in which it defines some life skills and their examples in the aforementioned stories that we analyzed. Developing students’ life skills is one of the educational goals, and this is one of the main dimensions in forming their personality, of which the school forms an important part and contributes to raising children. After family, the curriculum seeks to develop students’ skills through various topics, including stories. For this reason, stories have an important role in developing students’ life skills. After researching stories in Arabic language books for the intermediate stage, we found some life skills in them, such as the skill of self-awareness, the skill of empathy, and the skill of Dealing, problem-solving skill, decision-making, and creative thinking skill. The self-awareness skill and the empathy skill were used more often than the other skills in these stories, but the authors did not care to include stories in which the other skills were important, and the researchers recommend the need to pay attention to all life skills through.
