Abstract
Textbooks are among the most important educational tools for transmitting information, facilitating learning, and teaching the Arabic language. Given the significance of identifying the strengths and weaknesses of textbooks, the necessity of conducting content analysis for educational books becomes evident. It is essential to examine and analyze the content of this critical element to ensure it incorporates effective material and is presented in a manner that, rather than directly transmitting information and knowledge to the learner's mind, creates opportunities for active engagement and participation. This study was conducted to analyze the content of the 7th grade Arabic textbook and to examine the rate of active and inactive engagement coefficients within its content. The research employs a content analysis approach based on William Romey's method to evaluate the aforementioned textbook, with the objective of assessing the extent of its activeness and affirming that an appropriate textbook should engage learners in a balanced manner across three dimensions: text, images, and exercises. Through this study, appropriate recommendations will be provided to authors for improving the content of the books under investigation, enabling them to implement necessary modifications when publishing new editions. The statistical population of the study consisted of the textbook under analysis (13th edition, year 1404 SH), and the unit of analysis encompassed the entire text, images, and exercises. Descriptive statistics, including frequency counts and percentages, were utilized for data analysis. The results indicated that in Arabic 1 textbook, the engagement coefficients for the text, images, and exercises sections were (0.003), (0.04), and (2.1), respectively. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the results demonstrate the ineffectiveness of the text and images, while the engagement coefficient in the exercises section exceeded the desirable range.
