Abstract

In textbooks and educational texts, images play an important role and provide significant opportunities for authors of second language educational texts such as Arabic. The effectiveness of images requires familiarity with different image patterns and how to use them in educational books in order to provide a better learning environment; Therefore, in the present research, the images of second secondary Arabic books (10th to 12th grade) based on the different dimensions of Kress and Van Leeuwen's social semiotic representational role, including the dimension of process, personality and environment, and how the developmental process changes in the concept of representing images in accordance with cognitive development and The perception and knowledge of the learners was investigated and analyzed based on the developmental perspective of Gu and Feng in a quantitative and qualitative way. The results of the research showed that according to the mental growth process and the knowledge of the learners, there is no suitable model in choosing pictures in the 10th to 12th grades. Examining the three dimensions of the representation role, the process dimension, the character dimension and the environment dimension, respectively, showed that developmental changes from a narrative style to a concept, from an individual to a group or a part to a whole, from a cartoon to a photo, and from native environments to non-native environments in images. These three research textbooks do not exist. According to this research, in the future editions, by choosing appropriate images based on the developmental and perceptual process of the learners, it will lead to better efficiency and targeting of images to facilitate learning and better transfer of content.
