Abstract

The current research aims to identify the reading fluency among female students in the Arabic language department who speak Persian and its relationship with their self-efficacy in reading. To achieve this, the researcher adopted the experimental and descriptive-analytical methods, prepared the research tools, tested the research sample, recorded the results, processed them statistically, and arrived at several results, including: that the female students in the research sample possess reading fluency as well as self-reading efficacy skills, and that the average relationship between the sample's level on the two scales is a positive correlation. The research also reached several conclusions, including: that the reading fluency possessed by the female students has significantly influenced their perceptions of their reading efficacy, and consequently, this has reflected on their self-confidence during reading. Moreover, their possession of reading fluency skills has enhanced their reading efficacy, as the relationship between them is nearly positive. When female students are able to read fluently and with comprehension, this strengthens their self-assessment of their performance in a way that creates high internal motivation toward full achievement, where individuals with a high sense of self-efficacy tend to learn and accomplish, exert more effort, and exhibit high persistence this is what was realized with the current research sample, in that the relationship between reading fluency and reading self-efficacy is moderate and significant at the 0.05 level. Furthermore, the performance of female students in reading fluency skills can be developed by strengthening the concept of reading self-efficacy among them, as the perception of self-efficacy positively influences motivation, which was achieved in the current study. The female students in the research sample gained high confidence in their self-efficacy skills and high readiness to resist failure, and consequently, this positively reflected on their reading performance, enabling them to perform proficiently during the reading process and comprehend the read text.
