Abstract

This study aimed to investigate reading fluency among female Persian-speaking students of the Arabic language and its relationship to their reading self-efficacy. To achieve this, the researcher adopted both experimental and descriptive-analytical approaches. The research instruments were developed, the study sample was tested, and the results were recorded and statistically processed. The study revealed several findings, including that the sample students possessed reading fluency as well as reading self-efficacy skills. The results indicated a direct and moderate correlation between the two variables in the study sample. Among the key conclusions was that the students' reading fluency significantly influenced their perceptions of their reading efficacy, which in turn boosted their confidence while reading. Furthermore, their possession of reading fluency skills enhanced their reading efficacy, with the relationship between the two being almost directly proportional. When students are capable of reading fluently and with comprehension, it enhances their self-assessment of performance, creating a strong internal motivation for optimal achievement. Individuals with a high sense of self-efficacy tend to learn and achieve more, exert greater effort, and demonstrate higher perseverance, which was confirmed in the current research sample, showing a moderate and statistically significant relationship at the (0.05) level between reading fluency and reading self-efficacy. Additionally, the performance of students in reading fluency skills can be improved by reinforcing their concept of reading self-efficacy, as the perception of self-efficacy positively influences motivation. This was validated in the current study, as the sample students developed high confidence in their self-efficacy skills and a strong readiness to resist failure, which positively reflected on their reading performance and their ability to read proficiently and comprehend texts
